Microsoft Outlook Classes

Increase your efficiency with Outlook by attending a hands-on instructor-led class at the Computer Education & Training Center at UMSL. Learn to create rules to process messages automatically, use tools for finding and organizing messages, and discover other techniques to be more productive.

Virtual Classes: Our Outlook classes are now available online with an instructor present for the entire course. You will see the instructor's screen throughout the class and you can share your screen if you need individual help from the instructor. You will have time to practice, ask questions, and receive hands-on training.

In-person classes are also available at our West County facility with limited enrollments to promote social distancing. When you register, choose your class section based on how you want to attend the class: virtual or in-person.

  • Select "Live Online" if you want to attend virtually from your workplace or home.
  • Choose "West County In-Person" if you want to attend a class at our West County location.

Introduction to Outlook

(Prerequisite: Experience with Windows.) Learn to manage your schedule and communications with Outlook. Use the Contacts feature to keep track of people, phone numbers, and addresses; set up meetings and appointments using the Calendar; and create a "to-do" list or delegate tasks using the Tasks feature. Learn Outlook's e- mail tools, including flagging messages for follow-up, attaching files, and using the Out-of-Office Assistant. Discover how to stay organized using folders and categories, and customize your workspace to increase your efficiency. [Course Outline]

Time Management Using Outlook

(Prerequisite: Experience with Windows and Outlook.) Burdened by too many emails and too little time? Learn the OHIO method - only handle it once - to reduce your email load and clutter. Learn how to use email to make an appointment or create a new contact for the email sender using Outlooks built-in command options. Learn how to create rules with alerts that will prompt you when an immediate response is needed. Discover effective ways to search folders and how to use rules to move emails to folders so that you have an organized system to find important emails when you need them. Use Outlook Tasks to keep track of your tasks and those of others on your team. Learn how to apply due dates to tasks and how to assign task to others. Discover how Outlook can give you the flexibility to write an email today have it sent on a scheduled date and time.
